Our organisation and core values
At Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN), around 280 professionals work with specialised expertise: deep knowledge of the Dutch subsurface, broad expertise in the energy system, and extensive experience in long-term public-private partnerships.
We see it as our responsibility to contribute to the Netherlands’ climate ambitions. Accelerating the energy transition requires strong public-private collaboration. As a policy participation of the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth, and through our role as a connecting force and catalyst for collaboration across the energy value chain, EBN can help drive progress by bringing stakeholders together and contributing capital, infrastructure, knowledge and expertise to concrete projects.

What is EBN’s role?
EBN aims to make a meaningful contribution to CO2 reduction and the development of a climate-neutral energy system through its activities.
At present, natural gas still accounts for around 40% of energy consumption in the Netherlands. EBN supports the production of Dutch natural gas for as long as there is domestic demand. This helps reduce the need for gas imports, which benefits the carbon footprint, the economy, employment and the reliability and security of the national energy supply.
At the same time, EBN is committed to strengthening the geothermal energy sector and accelerating the integrated development of collective district heating. EBN is also actively involved in the development of responsible carbon storage.
In addition, EBN is exploring opportunities for underground energy storage and other key building blocks of a sustainable energy system, including hydrogen and green gas.
By combining its expertise, investment capacity and experience in public-private partnerships, EBN helps accelerate the transition to a sustainable, reliable and affordable energy system for the Netherlands.

What are EBN’s core values?
DOET is Dutch for ‘does’, and the four letters represent the Dutch words for clear, entrepreneurial, energetic and dedicated. With these core values, EBN gives further substance to its position as the State Energy Company of and for the Netherlands. We follow the EBN DOET motto both internally and externally, always with the aim of making the maximum possible contribution to the energy transition. The idea also forms part of our new recruitment campaign: ‘EBN Doet, doe jij mee?’ (EBN Does, are you doing it too?).
