Regionaal Warmtebedrijf Brabant
This project is being developed by the National Heat Investor (Nationale Deelneming Warmte – NDW), currently operating under Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN), in collaboration with various public sector partners.
Since January 2025, NDW, the Province of North Brabant and Enexis/Enpuls have been exploring the establishment of a Regional District Heating Company for the province (RWB). RWB is intended to play an important role in moving buildings in North Brabant away from natural gas based heating. The partners’ initial study indicates that around 400,000 homes and 35,000 non-residential buildings could be connected to a heat network. For these homes, connection to a heat network would deliver the lowest costs at national level.
The future RWB service area also has sufficient sustainable heat sources, including residual heat, geothermal energy, and heat from wastewater treatment plants and rivers. This means that around one third of the homes in North Brabant could be connected to a sustainable heat network, in addition to the 70,000 homes already connected to an existing heat network.
The Province of North Brabant, Enexis/Enpuls and the National Heat Investor expect to establish RWB in early 2027.
