Publiek Warmtebedrijf Regio Amsterdam

This project is being developed by the National Heat Investor (Nationale Deelneming Warmte – NDW), currently operating under Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN), in collaboration with various public sector partners.

The Municipality of Amsterdam, the National Heat Investor and Alliander are working to establish a public regional district heating company for the Amsterdam region. The aim is to create a sustainable, reliable and future-proof heat supply for the region. Together with the Municipality of Diemen, the partners are also exploring whether and how the future public heat company could operate in Diemen.

Publiek Warmtebedrijf Regio Amsterdam, expected to be established early 2027, is intended to help accelerate the heat transition. The partners are currently exploring, among other things, the design of the district heating network for the first neighbourhoods, the investments needed, and how best to provide an attractive proposition for residents. In addition, they are developing interim arrangements to support ongoing heat projects until the PWB is fully operational.

On our district heating pages, you can find more general information about collective heat systems, district heating networks in the Netherlands and the role of the National Heat Investor – NDW.
