Rotliegend in the North Sea Five Nations area – deposition and reservoir potential

The Rotliegend Group is well known for its excellent sandstone reservoir in, for example, the K- and L-blocks, where it was transported from the south. Recently the GEODE project (EBN/TNO) has also documented the presence of Rotliegend sandstone in the very north of the Dutch North Sea (A- and B-blocks), here transported from the north. The aim of the current project was to improve understanding of Rotliegend sandstone deposition, and its relation to the underlying Rotliegend Volcanics, in this northern “Five Nations”-area. This was done by consistent correlation and interpretation of wells from the five different countries that come together here: Netherlands, UK, Norway, Denmark and Germany.
