North Star
On the former GZI Emmen site (Gas Treatment Plant Emmen), Engie, Shell and Energy Beheer Nederland (EBN) are developing North Star, a biomethane production facility. The aim is to produce biomethane at the GZI Next site.
The project, known as North Star, involves the development of an anaerobic digestion facility with a production capacity of up to 39 million cubic metres of biomethane per year. By comparison, the NAM gas treatment plant previously produced 9 million Nm³ of methane per day.
If development proceeds according to plan, the biomethane facility is expected to become operational in 2026.
On our biomethane pages, you can find more general information about green gas in the Netherlands and the role of EBN.
