To do that, carbon emissions need to be brought down drastically. The Dutch government has set out to cut emissions by sixty percent by 2030, compared to 1990 levels, and reduce them to zero by 2050.<\/p>\n\n    <div id=\"content-navigation\" class=\"content-page-blocks-navigation\">\n\n        <h4>On this page<\/h4>\n\n        <ul class=\"content-page-blocks-navigation_links p-0 m-0\">\n\n            \n                <li><a href=\"#the-purpose-of-ccs\">The purpose of CCS<\/a><\/li>\n\n            \n                <li><a href=\"#public-partner-in-ccs-projects\">Public partner in CCS projects<\/a><\/li>\n\n            \n        <\/ul>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n\n<p>In order to hit these targets, a range of solutions will be needed, such as the transition to renewable energy, energy savings, material reuse, and carbon capture and storage. For EBN realization of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebn.nl\/en\/about-ebn\/strategy\/responsible-carbon-storage\/\">responsible carbon storage<\/a> is a strategic priority.<\/p>\n\n    <div class=\"content-page-content\">\n\n        \n            <div id=\"the-purpose-of-ccs\">\n                <h2>The purpose of CCS<\/h2>\n                <p>The carbon caption and storage solution is intended for industries that are unable to go carbon-free in the short term, partly because the required solutions will not be ready in time. This concerns mainly energy-intensive companies such as steel mills, chemical companies, fertiliser makers and oil refineries.<\/p>\n<p>CCS allows these companies to achieve the required carbon reduction and enables them to green their operations in a future-proof way. Our role extends to advising the Dutch Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth and implementing the climate and energy policy. We work closely together with private-sector and public-sector parties involved in CCS implementation in the Netherlands. EBN is also a partner on the Porthos and Aramis carbon transport and storage projects, as well as on other projects that are enabling carbon storage under the North Sea bed.
