Rotterdam – Capelle aan den IJssel
The subsurface in the Rotterdam region is well suited for geothermal energy production. At several locations, active studies are being carried out to determine whether geothermal development is feasible. This form of sustainable heat can be used in both existing and new district heating networks.
In Capelle aan den IJssel, research is also being conducted into the feasibility of geothermal energy and how it could be integrated into the local energy system. The development aligns with the sustainability ambitions of the Municipality of Capelle aan den IJssel, as well as those of Rotterdam and the wider region. It also supports the objectives set out in the Rotterdam-The Hague Regional Energy Strategy (RES), the Rotterdam Energy System Vision, and the Heat Transition Vision.
