Groningen (Small Fields)
Gas production from the Groningen field was permanently terminated on 19 April 2024. However, natural gas is still being produced from a number of small fields within this production licence area.
Pursuant to Section 82 of the Dutch Mining Act (Mijnbouwwet), Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) participates in these activities on behalf of the Dutch State, in the interest of “efficient exploration and production, structured resource management, and the optimal marketing of hydrocarbons”.
To this end, a cooperation agreement has been concluded between EBN and the licence holder. The licence holder is the holder of an exploration or production licence for hydrocarbons (natural gas, oil and/or condensate).
A complete overview of our hydrocarbon activities and more information about the Standard Cooperation Agreement can be found on our Hydrocarbon Partnerships page. On our natural gas pages, you can find more general information about natural gas production in the Netherlands and the role of EBN.
Please note: the location shown on this page is a random point within the relevant permit area. The actual fields and/or wells are distributed across the permit area and are not displayed on the map.
