EBN Becomes New Capacity Holder for Grijpskerk Gas Storage

Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) has signed a capacity agreement with NAM for the use of the underground gas storage facility in Grijpskerk. Until 1 April 2027, EBN can utilise a working volume of 15 TWh for the storage of low-calorific natural gas. This expands EBN’s options for fulfilling the gas storage filling mandate assigned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy for the coming winter.

EBN has a filling mandate of 80 TWh across the Grijpskerk, Norg and Bergermeer gas storage facilities. Unlike Bergermeer, Norg and Grijpskerk can only be used by a single capacity holder. GasTerra previously held this role, but the company will cease its activities at the end of 2026.

For the use of the Norg gas storage facility, EBN entered into an agreement with NAM on 1 April this year. EBN can make immediate use of the storage capacity at Grijpskerk and has already started injecting gas.

In addition to the filling mandate for the storage facilities mentioned above, EBN also has a filling mandate of 5 TWh for the Alkmaar Peak Gas Installation (PGI). EBN has also started gas injection at this facility.
