SCAN at the Geothermal Forum NL

The first edition of the Geothermal Forum NL took place in May 2026 and brought together professionals from across the geothermal sector. During the two-day event, operators, researchers, policymakers and students exchanged knowledge and experiences and discussed the role of geothermal energy in the energy transition. EBN contributed with several sessions, including two presentations on the SCAN programme.

Lessons learned

Gitta Zaalberg, Manager Operations in EBN’s Warmtetransitie Business Unit and SCAN Programme Manager, presented the approach to and implementation of SCAN’s research wells and seismic surveys in recent years. Eight research wells

Marten ter Borgh, SCAN Research Lead, presented the results and key insights from the eight SCAN research wells completed since the start of the SCAN programme in 2017. The presentation focused on five wells targeting the Triassic, the North Sea Groups and the Chalk Group. Download the presentation via this link.
