Infographic 2026

Anniversary edition looks back and ahead

The 10th edition of EBN’s infographic ‘Energy in numbers 2026’ was, as per tradition, presented on Tuesday 13 January 2026 to the Minister for Climate Policy & Green Growth, Sophie Hermans. The presentation took place during the EBN Energy Breakfast in the presence of nearly 400 policymakers and professionals from the climate and energy sector.

This anniversary edition of the infographic appears ten years after the signing of the Paris Agreement and reflects on key developments in the energy transition since then. In addition, the infographic looks ahead to the options and challenges for the coming years.

Key points include the Netherlands’ import dependency, energy use across sectors, and the evolution of industrial emissions. The infographic also illustrates how the global balance of oil and gas imports and exports has shifted in recent years.

As part of its forward-looking perspective, the infographic explores the decarbonisation of industry and the development of sources for district heating networks. It also addresses the increasing variability in solar and wind power generation, as well as the distribution of CO₂ emissions and climate-related damage across Europe.
