Joost Hooghiem (42) will be the new director of CO2 Transport and Storage Systems (CTOS) of Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) as of 1 September. Within EBN, this is the unit that deals with the development of CCS in the Netherlands.

Since 2022, Hooghiem has held the position of director of Hynetwork, a 100% subsidiary of Gasunie. In that capacity, he was responsible for the roll-out and operation of the public hydrogen network in the Netherlands. Prior to that, he held various management roles at Gasunie since 2006, including – as Director of Projects – responsibility for the realisation of Gasunie’s project portfolio. He is also Chairman of the Board of Gasunie’s Pension Fund Foundation. Hooghiem studied Industrial Engineering and Management in Groningen. He succeeds Berte Simons, who started working as COO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority in January.

Key role in the development of the CCS chain in the Netherlands

Yolande Verbeek, COO of EBN: “CCS – the capture and underground storage of CO2 – is essential for achieving the climate objectives. As a public energy company of and for the Netherlands, EBN plays a key role in the development of the CCS chain in the Netherlands and the large-scale projects that have to give substance to it. We are happy that Joost is coming to contribute to this. He has broad experience in various relevant functions and organisations and is therefore excellently positioned to create the necessary connection in the further development of the CCS chain and the network. The storage of CO2 is a precondition for the realisation of the energy transition and our Porthos and Aramis projects  play a key role in this. In our view, Joost is the right person to give this and other CCS projects the necessary interpretation and direction and to realise our ambitions – in close cooperation with our partners and colleagues.”
