Carbon Storage Dialogues: #7 Progress through Persistence
Retrospect
#7 Progress through Persistence
The number of CCS projects continues to grow steadily. However, persistence is essential if we are to truly scale up while simultaneously building an entirely new market. For that reason, the theme of the seventh edition of the Carbon Storage Dialogues on 28 May 2026 was “Progress through Persistence”.
The technology is available, significant progress is being made across both new and existing projects, infrastructure is being developed, and major investments are being committed. At the same time, the sector is confronted with uncertainty, fragmentation and financial risks. This results in a market in which taking concrete steps is challenging, particularly for those aiming to lead the way.
Experts from across the value chain, both nationally and internationally, shared their insights on the steps that still need to be taken and how these challenges can be addressed collectively. A key takeaway was the need for clear enabling conditions, including investment certainty, stable policy frameworks and coordination at the European level.
The central message of the day was clear: progress is achieved not through rapid breakthroughs, but through persistence, collaboration and the step-by-step development of a new industry.
Speakers included representatives from the University of Oxford, the European Parliament, Porthos, Aramis, Air Liquide, Uniper, AEB Amsterdam, Lhoist, ONE-Dyas, Siemens Energy, SCW Systems, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, and EBN.
